Hay Ewe: Meet Fletch!

Meet Fletch

  • Meet Fletch: The sneak!

Life in the arctic can be tough. You have to contest with Orcas and bears and the occasional Wooly Mammoth. Fletch learned to be good at being sneaky.

Using his wits and his frosty natural colour Fletch takes advantage of his surrounding including snow mounds, snow hills and other larger white objects.

For a dare he once hid on the back of a polar bear, picking Puggles pocket before diving into the snow.

Fletch showing his talents at Hide and go sneak

Another time Fletch orchestrated one of the arctics biggest heists, snatching the prized bounty of the Emperor penguin, right from under their.. beaks..

Life in the cold north has taught him to stay frosty, trust no one, and stay hidden. But a fox has gotta eat!

Fletch fetches himself a snack. Cold as ice.

Keep your distance and you might see him coming, but if you linger too close to a clump of snow there is a good chance that he will pinch more than you pocket!

Be careful of roaming gangs also. Getting crowded can be a cruel end to many of your followers!

Be ever vigilant for this white walker!

And now for something completely different. If you are feeling the chill and fancy something a little warmer why not check out the Trough speed video!

Plenty more to see over at our YouTube channel!

Hay Ewe: Meet Nash!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet Nash 01

Meet Nash: The Loan-Shark!

A dirty fighter and fencing champion – Nash was once a feared and respected swordfish!
Sadly, he bit the ear-hole of one too many opponents, landing him some unwanted attention.

The aqua-mob made an example of Nash by breaking his sword-nose and stealing his livelihood.
Now, Nash must do their bidding, or risk losing his favourite sword – forever.

Meet Nash 03

Nash attempts to ‘break the ice’ – No pun intended.

While working for the aqua-mob, Nash found success as a debt-collector and loan-shark.
An evil eye, toothful grin and vicious bite was all he needed to intimidate and re-earn his lost respect.

Eventually, the mob proposed a ‘real’ job for Nash:
Put an end to the woolly troublemaker known as ‘Matilda’ and “bring her down to our level”.
In return, they will give back his favourite sword.

Meet Nash 02

Lurking beneath Matilda – Humming the Jaws theme tune.

Nash now roams the watery-wasteland, smashing the ground beneath any non-aquatic creatures, dragging them down into the deep, cold, icy depths of the frozen sea.

If you spot Nash underneath the ice – Beware!
Idling too long will give Matilda a VERY cold bath, bringing her quest to a teeth chattering end.

Meet Nash 04

Why not try to ‘bribe’ the loan-shark with some stale tuna?

The player can delay Nash by luring him with stale tuna – for a candy price!
In addition, you can see him in his swordfish form with this concept-to-character speed video!

Just don’t try to go skinny-dipping!

Hay Ewe: Meet Cyril!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet Cyril

Meet Cyril – The Collector!

When Matilda began her epic lamb saving adventure, candy began falling from the sky.
Nobody asked why, or complained – After all, everyone loves candy – Especially if it’s free!

It wasn’t long before the farm was greeted by a winged, wide eyed, and very frustrated new visitor…

A shadow looms over the farm... Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Yep, it's a bird!

A shadow looms over the farm! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Bah, it’s just a greedy bird…

In swoops Cyril – A crow with a permanent sigh on his lips… Er, beak!
He claimed that it was HIS candy, accidentally being dropped during flights home to the candy nest.

If he wasn’t distracted by all the crazy lamb saving shenanigans going on down below on the farm,
then he wouldn’t be dropping candy in the first place!

Cyril is locked onto the delicious target! Matilda watches as Cyril reclaims his property.

Cyril arrives to reclaim his ‘property’.

Cyril decided to take matters into his own claws, swooping down to collect all the stray candy.
As far as he is concerned, it belongs to him – Locking everyone into a game of finders-keepers.

When candy is dropped, it is only a matter of time before Cyril will detour to try and reclaim it.
It is up to Matilda (and the player) to grab dropped candy before Cyril gets his beak around it!

Once the candy is in Cyril's gob, it cannot be taken back. Next time, grab it before Cyril does!

Once the candy is in his mouth, it cannot be taken back! Try to grab the candy before he does!

Not only is candy a delicious snack – But it is also the main currency used on the farm.
Be sure to grab it for bonus points, extra stamina, or to buy yummy boosts and awesome outfits!

Don’t let Cyril take all the candy perks!

We’ve been polishing current content as well as adding new features;
From graphical, animation, and UI tweaks – All the way to sound, music, and mechanical changes.

  • Adventure Mode Changes

The farm-map has been revamped – Adding new life, animation, colour, and atmosphere.
Fresh flowing rivers and the gentle chugging of a tractor, with passing clouds darkening the land. Despite the dodgy weather forecast, the farm-yard still shines through in all its green glory!

July Breakdown 1

More colour, more detail, more animation!

  • Social Changes

The new map also comes with improved level selection, where you can flaunt your higher ratings and challenge friends to beat your scores, or see who has beaten your own ranking and beat them back!

Those who score well can use their hard earned star-ratings to pop those pesky gate padlocks, unlocking greener pastures and bonus stages quicker than those who try to take the easier route!

July Breakdown 2

Compete with friends and prove you are the better shepherd using the leader-boards!

  • Online Changes

Not much of an adventurer? Well then, our level editor and online sharing may be the feature for you!
Want to beat the level designers at their own game? Or maybe craft a fiendish level for your friends?

Then craft your own adventure with the recently improved level editor and online sharing mode – Complete with new graphical tweaks and improvements.

July Breakdown 3

Create your masterpiece then upload and share it with fellow shepherds!

  • Gameplay Changes

Matilda now finds herself being tracked by a score measuring stamina bar.
Our sheepish hero never tires, yet those lambs wont save themselves! Time is of the essence!

Completing levels in shorter time and/or travelling shorter distances is greatly rewarded.
If you’ve beaten a level, try to beat it quicker or with less movement to push your ratings higher!

July Breakdown 4

Stamina shmamina! Take as long as you need, though remember – The quicker the better!

  • Additional Changes

We’re injecting new sounds & audio into the game, as well as planning an overhaul on candy prices.
Nothing will be too expensive and players will be fairly rewarded! Treat yourself to a new wardrobe,
or maybe a pocket full of boosts to secure higher scores and ratings?

One way or the other, there may be a few surprises in store for certain ‘achievements’ 😎

July Breakdown 5

Walter White has nothing on Matilda & the Lambs!

Hay Ewe is shaping up nicely – And we’ve a lot more in store over the month of August.

Hay Ewe: Meet Denzil!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet Denzil

Meet Denzil – The Goalie!

Denzil is a playful young Donkey who does what a Donkey does best… “Kick stuff!”

The lamb pandemic has given Denzil an infinite supply of cute woolly ‘footballs’ to practice with, although they do make suspicious bleating noises whenever they’re given two hooves to the face.

Meet Denzil 02

Denzil prepares to showcase his skills on EweTube!

Thanks to a habit of kicking anything in reach – Matilda is helped, as well as hindered, by Denzil.

Being drop-kicked by a Donkey is not a lot of fun – but it CAN launch you into hard to reach places – Which is a blessing, or a curse, depending on the circumstances!

Matilda looks away while Denzil playfully kicks Lamby over a fence.

Denzil playfully kicks Lamby over a fence – Saving Matilda some valuable time.

Aside from his kicktastic habits, Denzil harmlessly patrols the farm looking for kickable objects.

He doesn’t mean any harm, though it can be frustrating having to duck under flying sheep, lambs, or crates, that he playfully launches across the field at high velocity.

Meet Denzil 03

It doesn’t have to be round for Denzil to consider kicking it! Bye bye crate!

Some puzzles are much easier solved by having Denzil kick objects, or even the sheep and lambs, over certain obstacles. Try to make good use of Denzil’s kick and avoid being launched into danger!

Unfortunately for our long-faced Goalie, Denzil didn’t make it to the recent world cup…
But he did show up for some of our Cocosbuilder Art & Animation videos!

Hay Ewe: Meet Billy!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet Billy

Meet Billy – The Stubborn!

A headstrong goat from the snowy hilltops, who recently migrated to the warmth of the farm.
Billy violently protects his personal space by giving all invaders a devastating head-butt!

EweTube footage indicates that Billy has no love for cute little lambs.

EweTube footage indicates that Billy has no love for cute little lambs.

Billy is content with chewing the day away, reacting only when trouble roams near.
At times, he relaxes at his favourite spot of grass – Other times, he patrols around his own yard, watching for those pesky lambs, or even sheep, that make a habit of waltzing into his territory.

Matilda hides while Billy patrols nearby. Try not to get his attention!

Matilda hides while Billy patrols nearby. Try not to get his attention!

As a mountain goat who enjoys the cold chill of winter – the sunny farm has slowed Billy down.

Now he moves at a relaxed and easy-going pace but can still be dangerous in enclosed spaces.
If his target moves too far away, he’ll eventually give up the chase and walk back to his favourite spot.

Uh Oh... If Billy finds a target, he will give a slow but menacing chase. Run!

Uh Oh… If Billy finds a target, he will give a slow but menacing chase – Run!

Billy reacts through line of sight, allowing for covert goat avoiding operations to keep the lambs safe.
However, if he catches you, Matilda will be sent on a one-way airborne trip to the mountains!

As for the creative side, here’s some videos showing Billy being drawn and animated!

Hay Ewe: Meet Hamlet!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet Hamlet

Meet Hamlet – The Proud!

Hailing from a noble family, Hamlet was raised with the values of times forgotten.
A mobile farm fertilizer by day – Theatre actor and performing artist by night!

The original concepts for Hamlet 1 & 2.

The original concepts for Hamlet 1 & 2.

His unrivalled neutrality and love of entertaining the crowd means he earns the respect of the entire farm community, no matter how passive or how hostile they may be during their day to day business.

Sadly – being a respected actor doesn’t stop Hamlet from smelling like a big stinky bull bum.

Matilda and Lamby are knee deep in Hamlet's day job...

Matilda and Lamby are knee deep in Hamlet’s day job…

His amazing fertilizing abilities and apocalyptic stench mean that everyone leaves Hamlet well alone, at least until he’s had a nice long bath and is wearing something a little bit more appropriate.

He’s such a good actor that the farm community think he can actually fly!
Oh Hamlet… Wherefore art thou Icarus wings & flight goggles!?

He may be willing to don those secret items… For a candy price!

Pigs can (pretend) to fly, if you buy them these trendy items!

Pigs can (pretend) to fly, if you buy them these trendy items!

The player would be wise to avoid dragging Matilda or the lambs through Hamlets mud!
Not only is it totally yuck – But it also sticks to the wool of passing sheep or lambs.

If this happens, the effected characters will be slowed, even after leaving the mud bath.
It is best not to go for a brown swim before taking on a challenge where speed is vital!

Hay Ewe: Meet George!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments

Meet George

Meet George – The Destroyer!

“The Destroyer” sums up all of George’s previous titles, such as ‘Fence Masher’, ‘Barn Breaker’ – even titles as morbid as ‘Skull Smasher’.

He has earned many, thanks to obliterating anything that crossed his path using nothing but his head.
It was probably a lot to do with the shoddy woodwork at the time, though.

Lambies managed to sneak into George's pen. Matilda is not pleased...

Lambs are hiding in George’s pen… Will Matilda risk herself to save them?

He was so troublesome that the farm owner tried putting him into a beef pan…

And that farmer hasn’t been seen since!

Ha! That is just a camp fire horror story to keep youngsters away from the newly ‘reinforced’ fences, which now contain an even more enraged George.

Try as he might - He can't bust through the new gates or fences... But he won't stop trying!

Try as he might – He can’t bust through the new gates or fences… But he won’t stop trying!

With the gates and fences reinforced, and the barn now ‘bull proof’, George exacts beef justice on less tougher things – Such as stray lambs or sheep that enter his holding area.

Staring straight ahead, he’ll charge at the first thing that gets into his sights.

Matilda must use her wits to overcome George’s LACK of wits – But all it takes is one mistake…
Then Matilda will find herself being head-butted across the farm with extreme prejudice!

One mistake, or one miss-step, and Matilda will find herself being launched into the hills.

Lambs watch in horror as Matilda is launched into the hills.

Beware the fabled “Bull Rush” – It contains not one, but hundreds of Bulls just like George.
They are VERY angry about being contained – And charge across the field without a second thought.

Matilda and George (and ALL of his headstrong friends) square off in Bull-Rush!

Matilda and George (and ALL of his headstrong friends) square off in Bull-Rush!

Even the snow of winter and the joy of Christmas doesn’t put a damper on George’s hot temper,
as proven by his cameo in the previous Hay Ewe Xmas Movie.

Your farm-puter gives access to Ewe-Tube, the Baa-rbotique, and Amoozon!

Hay Ewe: June Breakdown!

By | End Week Update, games | No Comments
  • It’s time for the June Breakdown of Hay Ewe!

Here, we’ll be listing all changes made to the game over the course of the month.

What better way than to give a tour of the game from start to finish!

June Breakdown 1

Concept of space-wide introduction – If we have our way, Hay Ewe will reach all corners of the galaxy! Sort of…

Once the game loads, we’re taken to a new title screen – Its possible we’ll start in space and end up zooming all the way down to the farm stage of Hay Ewe, though title screen segments are still W.I.P.

Either way, players will have to make a cloudy pit-stop along the trip 🙂

June Breakdown 2

From there, you can roam around all the features, or dive right into the game.
Speaking of features, there’s been even more improvements to Ewe-Tube!

Not only has the artwork been upgraded, but it now offers a wealth of short and informative tutorials for every interactable object, every cast member, and anything that has an effect on your lamb-saving adventure. Everything discovered in-game will unlock on Ewe-Tube for player inspection.

June Breakdown 3

Your farmputer gives access to Ewe-Tube, the Baa-rbotique, and Amoozon!

To unlock Ewe-Tube, you need a computer and some disks…
Well, birds are dropping candy all over the farm – So who dropped all this hardware!?

June Breakdown 4

Matilda using the sheep-net to order in new hats… *sigh*

Keep those eyes peeled for disks and other items scattered all over the area…
They might just unlock extra content 🙂

Once done browsing the sheepish-net, it’s off to the new map-screen to plot your adventure.
Last month we showed a concept image – This month, it is fully active and animated.

June Breakdown 5

There are plenty of forks in the path for players to make their own choices.

The map-screen is alive and waiting for Matilda to choose where to go,
with hanging buckets swinging in the breeze and mills grinding the daily toil.

Zoom in & out to check the landscape, or watch Matilda do a dance when you beat a level!
Progress is logged, ranked, and visually represented on each level node.

It is visually clear to see where you have been, where you haven’t been, or where you could backtrack to improve on rankings or search for more un-lockables, bonuses, and items.

June Breakdown 6

Icons & Fonts have been improved across the board. Even tiny changes make big improvements!

Lastly – Fonts, icons and all the ‘little details’ have also been revamped across the entire game.
There have also been more art & animation improvements to assets, characters, and screens…
Too many to list! *gasp* But we’ll be sure to compile them for the next edition!

It’s been a great month for Hay Ewe – And it’s going to be even better by the next one!

Tune in next week as we’ll be introducing a cast member who takes no bull from anyone 😉
